Meet The Author
From the beginning, Kevin Kahakula’akea John Fong has sought to shift narratives and patterns that limit our potential and tear apart our social fabric. Whether on personal, interpersonal, or organizational levels, Kevin has promoted fundamental change that would allow us to live with greater compassion, efficacy, and well-being.
The Five Elements: An East Asian Approach to Achieve Organizational Health, Professional Growth, and Personal Well-Being sits at the root of all that Kevin does. Kevin has brought The Five Elements to hundreds of organizations and thousands of people — from Silicon Valley to rural Mississippi, from primary schools in New Mexico to the White House.
As Founder of the Kahakulei Institute, Kevin has gathered a team of bold leaders who work to weave people and possibilities to cultivate communities of belonging. Through decades of tenacious practice, Kevin has become an internationally recognized cultural translator, facilitator, and speaker in transformative justice. Through his work, Kevin helps to develop leaders who can, by building beloved communities, push back on the existential threats that people around the world now face. Kevin believes that, under the right conditions, truth can partner with accountability to bring healing and reconciliation, even in communities that have resisted positive change.
A graduate of the University of California with a degree in East Asian Studies, Kevin resides in the San Francisco Bay Area, the traditional land of the Ohlone People.
