On behalf of my grandmother, along with all of my teachers, elders and ancestors, I offer The Five Elements to you as a way to achieve balanced, healthy, harmonious and prosperous lives and communities.

Since 1998, I have been using The Five Elements as the foundation for my work as a consultant, trainer and facilitator in organizational design, transformative justice, and leadership development. Whether the client is comprised of two or 22,000 people, the concepts provided herein are relevant because they are embedded in the universal laws of nature, as well as in the quest that we all share in desiring to have healthy, balanced and prosperous lives and societies.

This book weaves together stories from hundreds of organizations and thousands of people who have experienced and applied The Five Elements into their personal and work lives.

Here are a few encapsulations of the stories you will read:

As the CEO of a startup, Diane wanted to maintain a cohesive vision that was anchored in a clear mission and core values to attract potential investors and clients. She used The Five Elements as a guide to build a coordinated and integrated leadership team that aligned with and supported their work so that they could deliver high-quality products and services.

Sam and Terry, a recently engaged couple, wanted to find ways to build and sustain a healthy relationship. They used The Five Elements to first map out their individual profiles then create a combined profile to understand each other’s personality and communication style. In doing so, Sam and Terry discovered ways to support their relationship and bring out the best in each other.

Ava and Carlos needed guidance on how to parent their three teenagers. “I don’t know what happened,” Carlos said of their children. “It’s as if extraterrestrials came down and traded our kids for theirs!” The Five Elements helped to explain their teenagers’ behaviors and provided healthy recommendations for Ava and Carlos to support them as they grew into adulthood.
